The Mississauga Furniture Bank is fortunate to have the services of a dedicated group of volunteers who coordinate the organization's committees.

Laura Reeves - Committee Chair

Senior Community Involvement-“Give a Sheet” Bedding/Linen Committee

The “Give a Sheet” Bedding/Linen Committee is responsible for contacting local hotels for donations of linens and bedding to be distributed to those in need. Then working with volunteers, the committee holds a monthly “Linen Social” to sort, package and label the donated bedding and linens. The social is held throughout Mississauga at senior’s residences and community centres. The event lasts approximately 2 hours. Coffee/tea and snacks are provided for those who would like to stay afterwards and socialize.
This program has been sponsored by a Grant from the Government of Ontario through a Seniors Community Grant.

David Sanders - Finance Committee Chair

The Finance Committee assists the Treasurer with maintaining financial policies and strategy, including review of the annual operating budget. They provide guidance to the Board and management about policies relating to cash flow, cash management and working capital. They recommend to the Board investment policies and guidelines for reserve funds, oversee investment performance and recommend changes to the investment strategy as appropriate. They review the annual tax returns and provide advice on other finance matters as appropriate. The Finance Committee assists with grant applications as needed. They review the terms and conditions of major grants and contracts.

 

Vacant - Fundraising Committee Chair

The Fundraising Committee is dedicated to raising brand awareness and funds for the Mississauga Furniture Bank through organizing and implementing social events that bring the community together.

 

Vacant - Volunteer Committee Chair

The Volunteer Committee is responsible for recruiting, interviewing, evaluating, and placing volunteers into various functions committees or activities. They interview volunteers to discover the skills and interests of each volunteer. Orient each volunteer to MFB, and place them into the appropriate committee or task group. They follow up with volunteers periodically to see if they are satisfied, and thank volunteers regularly for their efforts. The Volunteer Committee coordinates with other committees that need volunteers such as events and marketing. They must be aware of the function and needs of each committee or event. They attend meetings for other committees or events as needed. They provide input about the Volunteer of the Year award and other volunteer recognition. They create a volunteer intake, orientation, placement, tracking of hours, and thank you process for volunteers.

 

Alwyn de Melo - Strategic Planning Committee Chair

The purpose of the Strategic Planning Committee is to assist the Board with respect to all matters pertaining to the development, review, analysis, oversight and updating of the organizations strategic plans. In addition, the committee is responsible for any other matters referred to it by the Board.
